JCSDA Research Opportunities

Federal Funding Opportunity

JCSDA Federal Funding Opportunities

The JCSDA will engage the external research community by funding longer-term research projects on satellite data assimilation in numerical weather and climate prediction models. Grantees will be selected in response to an Federal Funding Opportunity in a competitive process open to both NOAA and non-NOAA researchers. This will be accomplished by a solicitation process. The document describing the process is entitled "The Call for Proposals for Research in Satellite Data Assimilation for Numerical and Climate Prediction." Major criteria for judging proposals will include the importance, relevance, and potential impact of the research toward achieving the JCSDA’s goal of improving and accelerating the use of observations from earth-orbiting satellites in operational numerical prediction models in order to improve weather forecasts, improve seasonal- to-interannual climate forecasts, and increase the physical accuracy of climate data sets. It is anticipated that the FFO will be updated and reissued on an annual basis; research grant durations will range from one to three years. The Letter of Intent is typically due in early August and the proposal submission deadline is early October. Stay tuned.
