GOES Imager Cloud Products

The GOES imager cloud product processing system generates cloud-top products (pressure and effective cloud amount) from the GOES-12 imager instrument every thirty minutes using imagery from the extended NHEM and SHEM sector scans. The cloud retrieval algorithm makes use of the 13.3 um ("CO2 absorption") band and the CO2 Absorption Technique (CAT) to derive cloud information for semi-transparent high clouds. Making use of the imager instrument allows for extended coverage (geographically), as well as improved spatial and temporal resolutions over the current Sounder product.
