The term registration refers to the consistency in navigation between successive images. Before a wind field is derived, the sequence of images making up the processing loop (usually 3 consecutive images) is first examined to assess and correct if possible, any registration errors. This is accomplished by matching the locations of (cloud free) landmarks in the reference image to their location in the subsequent images. The registration shifts displayed on this page represent the average shift (in km) of the clear landmark sample away from the reference middle image.
