ATOVS Sounding Products

The Advanced TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder (ATOVS) consists of High Resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS), the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) and Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) for retrieving temperature and water vapor soundings in all weather conditions (except heavy precipitation).

Currently, the ATOVS is generating products from the NOAA-18, NOAA-19, and MetOp-2 polar orbiting satellites. ATOVS derives global Temperature and Water Vapor profiles at 42 atmospheric pressure levels (1025 to 0.1 mb) levels. A subset of these levels for the most recent 24 hour period are available below for NOAA-19 and MetOp satellites.
