STAR / SMCD / OPDB - NOAA Products Validation System (NPROVS)
NPROVS Overview
NPROVS routinely (daily) compiles datasets of collocated radiosonde, dropsonde and appended numerical weather prediction (NWP) data with the following satellites and sounding (temperature and moisture) product suites:
- NOAA-18, NOAA-19
- Advanced TOVS (ATOVS)
- Microwave Integrated Retrieval System (MIRS)
- MetOp
- ATOVS
- MIRS
- Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI)
- IASI from EUMETSAT
- Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) F-16
- MIRS
- NASA-Earth Observing System (EOS)-Aqua
- Advanced InfraRed Sounder (AIRS)
- GOES 11 and 13 (clear sky only)
- Constellation Observing System for Meteorology Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC) Global Positioning System Radio Occultation (GPSRO) from University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR).
Numerical weather prediction (NWP) observations as originally appended to the radiosonde and as stored by satellite providers for selected satellite product suites, including ATOVS, GOES and COSMIC are retained on the NPROVS collocation data records.
Summary Plots
Summary plots of satellite-minus-radiosonde difference statistics are avaialble for designated product suite combinations:
Plots are updated monthly and available from 2008 to present.
User Interface
NPROVS user interfaces (JAVA) and associated datasets for collocated vertical profile (PDISP) and trend (NARCS) display and analysis is available for user download
- Profile Display (PDISP) provides graphical display and analysis of collocated vertical profiles stored on weekly collocation datasets (from 2009)
- NPROVS ARChive Summary (NARCS) provides graphical display and analysis of longer term trend (from 2008)
