Digital Earth Emissivity Information System (DEEIS) - Goals

Goals

  • Provide an integrated global land emissivity information bank through both sensor-based and algorithm-based products from microwave and IR wavelenths developed from communities both internal and external to JCSDA.
  • Provide a reconstructed wide-range wavelength of land emissivity at both microwave (6 ~ 200 GHz) and IR range (3.6 ~ 15.5 µm) for selected GPM-concerned areas.
  • Provide a structured inter-comparison between land emissivity products derived from algorithms in order to promote the development of even better algorithms.
  • Provide impact asssessments of the emissivity products on the JCSDA Community Radiative Transfer Model(CRTM), the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) program, the NCEP Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), and the NCEP Global Data Assimilation System (GDAS).

Overall Goal

The above goals are all intended to aid in the establishment of a well-rounded yet meticulous methodology in order to accurately characterize the IR and microwave land surface emissivity for NWP, CRTM, GLDAS, GDAS, GPM, etc.
