POES-GOES Blended Sea Surfcae Temperature: Validation

The Center for Satellite Applications and Research, within NESDIS, generates a matchup database for validation of Blended SST. This is important for the maintenance and improvement of the blended products. The buoy SST from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction(NCEP) Global Telecommnuication System (GTS) data are available with two days lag. A matchup database is generated with including blended SST, buoy SST and NCEP RTG SST.

An validation system has been in place since the inception of the operational blended SST. This system uses the matchup files as as input to plot monthly densitygram of blended SST against Buoy SST and timeseries of the number of matches, mean bias and standard devation.
