MSG Sea Surfcae Temperature: Validation

The Center for Satellite Applications and Research, within NESDIS, generates a matchup database for validation of the MSG-SST retrieval algorithms. This is important for the maintenance and improvement of the MSG-SST products. The global drifting buoys and the TOGA TAO moored buoy array are matched with MSG-SST retrievals within one hour and 5 km.

An validation system has been in place since the inception of the operational Bayesian MSG-SST retrievals. This system uses the matchup files as as input to plot monthly scattergram of MSG SST against Buoy SST and caculate the number of matches, mean bias and standard devation. The validation results will be updated at the beginning of each month.
