photo of Tsan MoTsan Mo received his PH.D. in physics from the University of Maryland in 1969. He worked in the fields of nuclear physics, atmospheric sciences, and microwave remote sensing. He joined the NOAA/NESDIS/ORA Satellite Research Laboratory (now Satellite Meteorology and Climatology Division) in 1992 to pioneer the calibration/validation of microwave sensors, including Microwave Sounding Unit, Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A and -B, and Microwave Humidity Sounders. He has been awarded one Department of Commerce Silver Medal and four NOAA Bronze Medals. He also received two National Aeronautics and Space Administration Group Achievement Awards for the NOAA-J and NOAA-K teams, respectively.
