Remko Scharroo was a visiting scientist and PostDoc from
late 2001 to late 2004, and successively continued to work at the
Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry in Silver Spring, Maryland, as a
research scientist in the field of satellite altimetry.
Before joining NOAA, he was an assistant professor in Satellite Systems at
the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, where he also
achieved his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering. For over a decade,
he was involved with calibration and validation of European altimeter
missions and collaborated with NOAA on operational use of the altimeter
data of ERS-1, ERS-2, and GFO.
Remko is a member of the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team, the
Science Advisory Groups of Envisat and Cryosat, and currently is the NOAA
Measurement Systems Engineer for the Jason-2 mission.
Remko is contracted from Altimetrics LLC, a company he founded in
2005.
