The Value of Using Satellite Altimetry
to Detect Submarine Hazards
NOAA
satellite altimeter-derived bathymetry had mapped shallows
near crash site of the San Francisco (large red dot),
demonstrating the value of using satellite altimetry to detect submarine hazards.
Figure. Soundings (black dots), reefs (small red dots), depth contours based
on combination of altimeter derived gravity anomalies and conventional soundings
shows ridge running westward from Tarang Reef to the submarine crash site
(large red dot), at an estimated depth of approximately 300 meters.
