Awards

NOAA's Unified Modeling Committee was established NOAA's Research Council in 20171 to plan, monitor, evaluate, and improve Unified Modeling within NOAA, and in a community effort with external partners. As such, at the NOAA General Modeling Meeting and Fair, the Unified Modeling Committee plans to recognize exemplars of high quality modeling within NOAA and its partners presented during the meeting.

Awards will be distributed by the Awards Chair John Dunne on the last day of the meeting.

Outstanding Exhibition of Unified Modeling Award

This award is given to the presenter(s) of an outstanding Fair exhibit/poster at the NOAA General Modeling Meeting and Fair that inspires attendees on successful unified modeling to advance NOAA's mission. The awarded exhibit exemplifies efficient and effective modeling to support scientific and technical advancement of both understanding and practical applications. It further excels in clear and incisive content that demonstrates an activity that has successfully advanced unified modeling at NOAA or the partner community and will inspire or facilitate further progress.

All exhibits presented at the Fair are eligible for this award (no self nominations, please). Selection will be done by popular vote through on-line polling, one anonymous vote per registered meeting participant, with polling opening at 2 pm of Sept. 10 and closing at 5 pm on Sept. 11.

Outstanding Model Visualization Award

This award is for an aesthetically outstanding still or animated original visualization of modeling results presented at the annual NOAA General Modeling Meeting and Fair. The awarded exhibit exemplifies visualization on the nexus of artistic and scientific communication regarding the advances possible through NOAA's efforts in unified modeling. It further inspires in its demonstration of NOAA modeling to capture phenomena or processes.

All visual creations presented at the Fair are eligible for this award (no self nominations, please). Selection will be done by popular vote through on-line polling, one anonymous vote per registered meeting participant, with polling opening at 2 pm of Sept. 10 and closing at 5 pm on Sept. 11.
