All Line Offices of NOAA’s community met for the first time in September 2018 to exchange experiences, capabilities and needs for numerical modeling. This inaugural NOAA General Modeling Meeting and Fair featured interdisciplinary modeling and partnerships and included nearly 200 weather, oceanography and living resource modeling experts. Strategic meeting outcomes emphasized the need for modeling infrastructure that enables community modeling and allows external community participation in exploratory research and development. Excellent examples of models came from all NOAA line offices including several demonstrating linkages between disciplines.

A second NOAA General Modeling Meeting and Fair is being planned for 13-16 April 2021, fully virtual. We will engage the interests of all NOAA Line Offices to help move NOAA towards a more unified approach to modeling, as envisioned by NOAA's Research Council, facilitating exchange of best practices across all of NOAA's modeling enterprise. Overarching goals of this event are to enhance modeling communication and networking, provide updates on major modeling initiatives across the Line Offices and inform future NOAA Unified Modeling Committee activities.

The General Modeling Meeting will include keynote presentations and discussions addressing NOAA Line Offices cross-disciplinary modeling activities, needs, and opportunities. The Fair will enable NOAA organizations and their partners to showcase their modeling capabilities, network with experts and receive model/model data users' feedback. Modeling tutorials will be offered during the event to help foster the cross-disciplinary use of existing models and adoption of tools that support such modeling

All those in NOAA and from the external community who have an interest in NOAA models and model output applications are invited to attend! If you have work that is relevant to the NOAA modeling enterprise, NOAA model development and applications, submit an abstract for the Fair to share your work.
