STAR / SMCD / SPB Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet (SBUV/2) Project - Data Products

artist's rendition: NOAA 18 satellite

NOAA-18 Satellite

NOAA-18 (2005-Present)

NOAA-18 SBUV was launched on May 20, 2005 into a 470-nmi afternoon orbit. The instrument monitored the ozone layer until December 12th 2012.

NOAA-18 SBUV/2 Shutdown

On 5/22/08, NOAA-18's SBUV/2 suffered a chopper motor problem which caused data production to cease. The problem was resolved and data resumed on 7/23/08. Therefore there is a data gap from 5/23/08 - 7/22/08. A similar motor problem also caused data loss from 11/09/08 - 11/11/08.
On Deceber 12th 2013, the chopper motor stalled and all data flow ceased. All attempts to recover the instrument have failed.

Ozone Data

NOAA-18 SBUV/2 Version 8 reprocessed data is not available in the DVD ASCII format. It will be made available in the future.
