Description:
The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University seeks to fill 1 postdoctoral fellowship for its collaborative research as a Cooperative Institute with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) in College Park, Maryland (office will be in College Park). The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) Team within the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) of the Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) of NOAA/NESDIS seeks to develop improved SST products from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) onboard S-NPP and JPSS satellites, and from the Advanced Himawari and Baseline Imagers (AHI/ABI) flown onboard geostationary Himawari and GOES-R. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometers (MODIS) onboard Terra and Aqua platforms, the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometers (AVHRR) onboard NOAA and MetOp satellites, and the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infra-Red Imagers (SEVIRI) onboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) will be also used. Radiative transfer modeling, mathematical inversions, sensors performance analyses, improved cloud screening and SST algorithms, including SST validation and quality control, are key elements of the new development. The individual in this position will be a member of the SST Team and will be responsible for the development of improved SST and cloud mask algorithms for VIIRS, AHI, ABI, AVHRR, MODIS and SEVIRI.
