STAR's Pryor and Smith Honored with DOC Gold Medals

Ken Pryor and Tom Smith27 June 2016 - Today Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan announced this year's Department of Commerce Gold and Silver Medal award winners. These medals, which are the highest awards bestowed by the Dept. of Commerce, recognize distinguished performance by NOAA employees. The honorees included 2 STAR scientists: The honorees included 2 STAR scientists: Ken Pryor was recognized for his expertise and creativity in developing the Microburst Windspeed Potential product from GOES-13/15 sounders. Thomas M. Smith was part of a team recognized "for ground-breaking research using NOAA's global surface temperature dataset to show there was no 'hiatus' in global warming over the past 15 years".

Gold Medal Award - The Department's Gold Medal recognizes distinguished performance characterized by extraordinary, notable or prestigious contributions that impact the mission of the Department of Commerce and/or one operating unit, and that reflect favorably on the Department.
