Current and Future Satellite Missions

On April 8, 2010 the European Space Agency (ESA) successfully launched the CryoSat-2 radar altimeter satellite. We are supporting the validation of CryoSat-2 sea ice elevation measurements (see IceBridge 2010). NASA is preparing for a follow-up mission to ICESat, called ICESat-2, which is currently scheduled for launch in 2017. We also expect to support the validation of ICESat-2 sea ice measurements. This will be achieved by collecting independent ground-truth and airborne data sets.
