Acceptable Forms of ID for Visitors to NCWCP

After 21 July 2014, NCWCP Building Security Staff will not accept driver's licenses from any state that is not compliant with the REAL ID Act of 2005 (P.L. 109-13).

These are the 6 states or territories whose driver's licenses are currently not compliant with the REAL ID Act:

  • American Samoa (compliance under review)
  • Oregon (extension until 8/7/2020)
  • Oklahoma (extension until 9/18/2020)
  • New Jersey (under review; currently accepted)
  • Northern Mariana Islands (extension until 2/28/2020)

Check the Homeland Security website for the latest list of non-compliant state drivers licenses.

+PLEASE NOTE: Federal officials may continue to accept Enhanced Driver's Licenses from these states. These EDLs are identifiable by an American flag.

Congress passed REAL ID to enact the 9/11 Commission's recommendation that the Federal Government "set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses." It establishes minimum standards for issuance and production of driver's licenses and prohibits Federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes licenses from states not meeting the Act's minimum standards.

What does this mean for visitors to NCWCP?

After July 21st 2014, non-compliant state driver's licenses will not be accepted as identification to enter the NCWCP.

What should I do if I am hosting visitors to NCWCP?

Make sure your visitors have an acceptable form of ID BEFORE their arrival. If prospective guests are at all uncertain about their state driver's license, ask them to bring an alternate form of ID from the list below.

What forms of identification are accepted?

REAL ID compliant state-issued driver's licenses are acceptable forms of identification, as are the following forms of Federally-issued identification:

  • Passport
  • Passport Card
  • DOD's CAC
  • Federal Agency HSPD-12 IDs
  • Veterans ID
  • Military dependents ID
