8 May 2018 - Tim Schmit from NESDIS/STAR/CoRP/ASPB has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal in the Science and Environment Category. The 'Sammies, known as the "Oscars" of government service, are a highly respected honor with a rigorous selection process. Named for the Partnership for Public Service's late founder who was inspired by President Kennedy's call to serve in 1963, these awards align with his vision of a dynamic and innovative federal workforce that meets the needs of the American people. Tim was nominated for his lifelong contributions to the GOES satellites. This year, there were over 300 nominations from various federal agencies across the government and he is one of the 27 finalists. The final awards will be given in October 2018, and we wish Tim good luck!
