STAR Scientists Honored with NOAA Bronze Medals

15 March 2011 - The NOAA Honor Awards, held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, once again honored the outstanding efforts of STAR scientists. NOAA Deputy Administrator Dr. Larry Robinson addressed the honorees and gave the awards. This year's NOAA Bronze Medal awards recognized:

  • Mike Pavolonis - For providing near real-time volcanic ash information in the critical period following the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.
  • Istvan Laszlo and Andrew Heidinger - For developing an enhanced production system for satellite-based real-time radiation data from NOAA's operational geostationary satellites.
  • Bruce Ramsay - Bruce received a Distinguished Career Award for excellence in enhancing NOAA / NESDIS snow and ice mapping capabilities during the past 15 years.
